Summer Plant and Mushroom Walk With Bo Brown and Mike Snyder - Dockley Ranch 2026
Alright friends, we’re having a mid-summer guided hike with our friend, plant and foraging educator Bo Brown, and this is our only hike with Bo that we’ll be offering for the rest of this year!
Bo is the author of Foraging the Ozarks and Foraging Central Grasslands, and a respected authority on the plants of our region, drawing on decades of field experience. Mike is a myco-educator who’s been studying and foraging mushrooms for over fifteen years and loves nothing more than to share what he’s learned with anyone who’ll listen. His own Falcon Guide, Foraging Mushrooms of the Ozarks, will be released on September 15th. This is an opportunity to participate in a unique and extremely informational day in the woods with two of the most well-known foraging educators in the region and we’re proud to offer this experience to our communities.
We’ll be meeting up at the gorgeous Dockley Ranch, about an hour southeast of Springfield, MO, on Saturday, August 15th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We’ll walk the property together while Bo identifies any plants of interest we encounter and tells us how to know them and how to use them in the kitchen. Mike will be on the lookout for summertime mushrooms and going over their identifying features, their ecological roles, and how to collaborate with them to improve your life. This is a really interesting time of year to explore the Ozarks and a perfect chance to enjoy some time in the forest with a group of fellow foragers.
Dockley Ranch has graciously offered to open up their gorgeous outdoor bar just for our event and they’ll be serving up fantastic food and drinks directly after the walk. All proceeds from food and drink sales go to support the non-profit Highlonesome Music Festival they have each year. They’ve done this each time we’ve had a walk with Bo there and it’s always amazing!!
In order to maintain a fairly intimate setting, participants will be very limited, so if you want to join us don’t hesitate. Tickets are $50 per person and are NON-REFUNDABLE unless we have someone on our waiting list to replace you. This event is rain or shine, but in case of severe weather, we’ll reschedule. Directions and other information will be sent to registrants a week or so before the event.

Spring Plant and Mushroom Walk with Bo Brown 2026
Come join us for an educational event like no other! This is your chance to get familiar with the incredible abundance of plants and fungi our region has to offer and have fun doing it!
Bo Brown is the author of TWO excellent regional foraging guides - Foraging the Ozarks and Foraging Central Grasslands - and is a renowned authority on the plants of our region, drawing on decades of field experience. Mike Snyder is a myco-educator who has spent the last few years sharing the amazing world of fungi with communities around the state and beyond. He’s the author of Foraging Mushrooms of the Ozarks, an upcoming guide to edible mushrooms of the region. This is an opportunity to participate in a unique and extremely informational experience and we’re proud to offer it to our communities.
We’ll be meeting up right here on our homestead, just south of Edgar Springs, MO, on Saturday, May 9th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. We’ll walk our property together while Bo identifies any plants of interest we encounter and tells us how to know them and how to use them in our kitchen. We’ll see many spring ephemerals along with lots of delicious springtime weeds to learn about. Mike will be on the lookout for late spring mushrooms and going over their identifying features, their ecological roles, and how to collaborate with them to improve your life. This will be a perfect chance to enjoy some time in the woods with two experienced educators who are passionate about sharing their knowledge about our plant and fungal allies.
Please note, this is an educational opportunity, NOT a foraging outing where you will be filling your basket. Like all of our offerings, we try to maintain a fairly intimate setting so the number of participants will be very limited. Tickets are for one person and are non-refundable. We will have the event rain or shine, but if severe weather is expected we’ll reschedule.
